Serena Van der Woodsen: You Know You Love Her
Carrie Bradshaw was the reigning blonde bombshell on television but when Sex and the City retired, she too had to give up the throne. And who else could be a more fitting successor than Gossip Girl’s lead character Serena Van der Woodsen, portrayed by rising star Blake Lively.
Her best friend and occasional arch-rival Blair Waldorf may just be as high up on the glamour scale as she is but both fashion and amateur critics can tell the difference between the two’s approach to fashion. With her tall frame (5’10” to be exact), Serena is known for wearing body-hugging dresses that reveal her long legs and her fabulous shoes. Here is a round-up of memorable footwear pieces flaunted by Serena.
Winter Trash by Christian Louboutin
In Season 5’s episode 8, titled “All the Pretty Sources”, Serena fulfilled her Maid of Honor duties and organized a bridal shower for her best friend and occasional rival Blair. The theme of the party was Breakfast at Tiffany’s and she was dressed aptly for the occasion, wearing a printed silk dress with a long pearl necklace that is very Audrey Hepburn-ish. But unlike Hepburn’s penchant for flats, Serena wore 6-inch heels from Christian Louboutin. These Winter Trash peep-toe slingbacks are from the Fall-Winter 2011 collection.
Striped Pumps by Dolce & Gabbana
“All the Pretty Sources” was indeed packed with plenty of pretty stuff. For one, Serena was once again spotted wearing eye candy shoes. Her Dolce & Gabbana heels were draped in gold and silver metallic leather stripes. The loud details of her stiletto shoes provided the perfect balance to her plain little black dress, resulting to a sexy, classy look.
Double Buckle Peep-toe Sandals by Miu Miu
The elite gang headed down to the theater in “Big Sleep No More” and of course, they watched it in style. Serena watched the performance in double-strapped Maryjane sandals from Miu Miu’s Spring 2011 collection. The shoes were an excellent finish to her sparkly little black dress.
Platform Sandals by Yves Saint Laurent
One of YSL’s finest styles in the Spring 2011 collection made an appearance in the 4th episode of Gossip Girl Season 5. Serena paired her yellow bodycon dress with multi-strapped wedges covered in snakeskin.
Suede T-Strap Sandals by Prada
The “Beauty and the Feast” episode of the current season was filled with a lot of tension for the rest of the cast. Serena, on the other hand, took some time out with her cousin, Charlie Rhodes. She graced the streets of Los Angeles in a pair of nude platform t-strap sandals from Prada. The shoes feature lovely cut-out details and soft suede leather.
Chain Lace-Up Boots by Guiseppe Zanotti
With only a plain black long-sleeved top and denim jeans, it could have been one of Serena’s rare underdressed moments. However, her splendid boots made up for the boring outfit. Serena definitely towered in these Guiseppe Zanotti’s low-cut boots whose heels measure 4 ¼ inches. The gold chains dazzled even more against stark black suede.
Jeweled Flat Sandals by Guiseppe Zanotti
Approximately 90% of the time, the female cast of Gossip Girl is seen in towering heels. That doesn’t mean though that they are less glamorous in flats. Serena looked her usual fabulous self when she paired a green ruffled dress with a pair of crystal-adorned flat sandals by Guiseppe Zanotti. The overall look screamed ‘summer chic’.
Palais by Yves Saint Laurent
Silver and Purple? No problem! Serena’s fearless color-matching clearly shined in “While You Weren't Sleeping” of Season 4. She punctuated a rather dark ensemble with bright purple d’Orsay round-toe pumps from YSL which feature 5-inch heels.
Cutout Sandals by Lanvin
This particular ensemble is all about geometric lines, from her pointed shoulder blazer to her pinstriped tights up until her cut-out leather sandals. The Lanvin shoes feature an asymmetric cutout detail with pointed toes and curved heels.
Satin Pumps by Salvatore Ferragamo
Satin pumps are typically for nighttime wear but Serena is no conformist. In broad daylight, her feet glistened with platform satin pumps by the Italian designer Salvatore Ferragamo.
Clue by Jimmy Choo
Serena walked in Jimmy Choo shoes in “The Grandfather: Part II” episode back in season 3. Attending an election party, she dressed pretty much appropriately with a simple green satin dress and bronze snakeskin slingbacks. Serena could have easily passed up for a dashing First Lady in her attire.
Jazz by Jimmy Choo
Another notable Choo made it to Serena’s shoe close: the Jazz. These shoes are especially adored for the leather straps that crisscross the front of the grained leather pumps. As seen on Serena, the pair goes well with black stockings.
Rolando by Christian Louboutin
This is the perfect attire that can take you from the restaurant to the club and even until the after-party. The one-sleeved purple dress is just exquisite and no other pair could have been more apt than Chrsitian Louboutin’s python platform pumps.
