Sexy Shoes and the City Part 2

Apparently, people just can’t get enough of Carrie, Samanatha, Charlotte and Miranda.

Two years after the successful movie adaptation of Sex and the City, a sequel came out, much to the delight of its loyal viewers who stuck with the girl gang since 1998.

You’ve all bore witness to their ups and downs, twists and turns and misses and hits in career, fashion and love for six seasons and one movie. This time, their misadventures get edgier as they take a reprieve from the streets of New York and conquer the Middle East.

When word was out that the girls will bring their stilettos to the deserts of Abu Dhabi, speculations and excitement rose as to how these ladies would style their way to uncharted territories. How would a Carrie Bradshaw dress up in the challenging climate of the sub-tropics?

In over 48 costume changes for Carrie alone, costume designer Patricia Field once again proved what a fashion genius she was.  With a wardrobe budget that’s roughly estimated to £7 million, there is no wondering why these ladies looked more fabulous than ever.

A famous celebrity stylist even pointed that some costume pieces exceeded the price of an SUV.  Of course, the designer shoes comprised a huge fraction of that sum. Here’s a catalog of the luxury that Carrie walked in.

Gladiator Sandals by Vivienne Westwood

The movie poster itself was enough to illustrate the many splendid outfits that await the audience. Like a desert princess, she emerged in a long, flowing dress and interesting gladiator sandals. These shoes and their peculiarly long straps were the stars during the Westwood’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Although these shoes weren’t originally intended for retail, the designer just couldn’t turn down the public and made them available in the market.

Another pair also dazzled in SATC’s promotional poster and this time, it’s from Christian Louboutin. Carrie’s gleaming shoes and accessories were toned down by a simple, white jersey dress. Interestingly, she wore the exact white-and-gold ensemble during the opening scene of the film where she was leaving her apartment and she was like a breath of fresh air.
The jewel-encrusted Pigalle pumps feature the same 120 mm heels, as in most Louboutin pumps.

Gino T-Strap Sandals by Christian Louboutin

Gino T-StrapWhen you get off a hot Mercedes-Benz convertible, you might as well stay consistent with that air of luxury by stepping out in lovely designer shoes, and Carrie knows exactly just what that means. She wore round-toe, T-strap sandals with 4-inch heels whose bright hues beautifully contrast her deep blue dress. Yes, Carrie is THAT consistent.

Considering that Carrie has been famed for her obsession with Blahniks, it’s quite surprising that she’s been stepping in red soles in most of her costume changes. In one scene, she wore the Galliano for Dior newsprint dress for the second time (the first was sometime in Season 3 of the TV series) and finished off with peep-toe booties. These Louboutins feature floral lace details, jewel-encrusted heels and a buckle ankle strap.

Lezza Sandals by Manolo Blahnik

With Carrie’s irrefutable influence in fashion, she has turned simple clothes to iconic pieces such as the J’Adore Dior t-shirt. What she’s also known for is matching these pieces with high fashion couture, even with a ballgown. In SATC 2, she roamed the Abu Dhabi market in a rather posh ensemble. No other outfit would’ve sufficed for running into Aidan, the great ex-boyfriend.

Her purple full skirt was well accentuated by her pink sandals from Manolo Blahnik. Made of fine suede leather, the Lezza sandals has crisscross cut-out straps over the vamp with tiny brass studs. A 105 mm heel height may not be suitable for a stroll in the local market but Carrie proved otherwise.

There is a lot going in this particular outfit, from the lovely Vivienne Westwood dress to the Salvatore Ferragamo feather clutch. Fortunately, there is a pair of nude Manolos that doesn’t draw much attention but goes perfectly with the entire look.

For as long as Carrie is in it, expect that any SATC production will be loaded with a lot of Manolos. Another pair used in the film from the British shoe label was the brown snakeskin sandals which she wore with a floral jumpsuit under a chic vest.

A lot of eyebrows were raised when the girls were portrayed to wear stilettos at the desert; it’s just unrealistic. But who cares when the shoes are mightily gorgeous? Carrie wore purple metallic slingback sandals which complement her pink dress.

Trust that whatever the occasion is, whether it’s a black tie affair or Sunday brunch with the girls, Carrie knows exactly what to wear. In SATC 2, she shows women how to travel in style. Aboard the first-class cabin of their plane to Abu Dhabi, Carrie wore an oversized couture hat of scaly straw material and brown-taupe dress with asymmetrical ends. Her multi-colored slingback sandals gave more life to the neutral tones of her overall outfit.
