The Academy Awards 2012: The Stars in Heels

Last February 26, 2012, the world found itself torn again between two opposing forces. It was nothing like the World War though; it’s just that, by some unexplained fate, two of the year’s most highly anticipated events fell on the same date at the same time. At the Amway Center at Orlando, NBA’s finest battled out for the All-Star Game. Meanwhile, at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, Hollywood’s brightest dressed up to the nines to acknowledge this year’s achievers in the film industry. You can guess there was a lot of power struggle over the remote that night.

But while the slam dunks, the daredevil drives and the long shots wowed nations, so did the elegant tuxedos and dresses modeled by the lovely guests at the Oscars. The red carpet was, as usual, dotted with stars in exquisite gowns, suits and shoes straight from the runway. Votes for the best and worst dressed have been casted and the winners have been announced but here is yet another appreciation post for those who undoubtedly dazzled at the Oscars.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Jimmy Choo

Gwyneth Paltrow

Apparently, Ben Affleck wasn’t the only common denominator between Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow; both share the same affection for Choos. Paltrow wore Koko gold platform sandals with her über chic caped ensemble. The actress was ethereal in a white minimalist dress and glittery Choos from the Spring 2010 collection. And get this: the heels measure a whopping 6 inches! For someone who stands already at 5’9”, Mrs. Martin practically didn’t need the boost. Perhaps she didn’t want her precious dress to touch the red carpet. Whatever the reason, Gwynnie definitely towered over everyone.

Melissa Leo in Jimmy Choo

Another Koko was sighted at the red carpet and they were on the feet of Melissa Leo. She opted for the suede version of the sandals to match her dazzling gold and black outfit. These Kokos feature black suede leather with gold piping.

Michelle Williams in Christian Louboutin

Michelle Williams

Even though Williams didn’t take home the Best Actress trophy, she was beaming like a winner in her burnt orange number. Her long trail may have covered the beauty that was her shoes (as in most cases that night) but sources were able to identify them as Louboutins. They’re the Lady Peep platform pumps from the Spring 2012 collection. The crystal embellishments of the shoes provided the sparkle to her Louis Vuitton silk mousseline and organza peplum-waist dress. The Best Actress nominee was on top of everyone’s best-dressed list that Marilyn Monroe couldn’t have been any prouder.

Tina Fey in Stuart Weitzman

Another peplum dress made it to the red carpet and it was carried gracefully by Tina Fey. Although the tail of her gown covered her shoes, viewers were able to take a few peeks of her Stuart Weitzman pairas she went up stage to present an award. Closed toe shoes weren’t exactly the trend that night but the comedian wasn’t one to follow the pack.

Judy Greer in Stuart WeitzmanJudy Greer

“The Descendants” was vying for Best Picture that night and as one of the supporting cast in the film, Judy Greer dressed sharply…or sparkly, for that matter. Her simple but elegant beaded dress was quite a relief from the ball gowns and fish tails that commonly swarm the Oscars. To finish off her look, she wore basic but trusty black patent pumps. Her Lille platform pumps are by Stuart Weitzman.

Janet McTeer in Stuart Weitzman

Although she wasn’t really keen on winning Best Supporting Actress, Janet McTeer was just as honored to “hang out with all these fabulous people." "I think to be singled out, to be in the best category, that's enough…Anything else really is a cherry on a cake, ”she said in an interview. But the real cherry on the cake that night was her Chantelle shoes from Stuart Weitzman. This ultra-feminine piece is something you may usually see at a wedding but since McTeer’s fiery red gown allowed only a glimpse of her footwear, she perhaps opted for a pair with gorgeous tips. And what could be more gorgeous than Chantelle’s chantilly lace vamp?

Rose Byrne in Jimmy Choo

One word: FOXY. The sexy bob. The sleek bangs. The Chanel drop earrings. The Vivienne Westwood sequined gown. And of course, the shoes from no less than Jimmy Choo. Byrne wore one of Hollywood’s fashion staple from Choo’s collection: the Vita platform peep-toe pumps which feature glossy patent leather. The actress’ overall ensemble effortlessly outshined her fellow female leads in Bridesmaids.

Meryl Streep in Salvatore Ferragamo

Holding the record of the most Academy Award nominations of any actor in history, Meryl Streep is probably already used to the red carpet and the pressure that comes with posing on it. Although she was way past her golden age, the 62-year-old actress sashayed in a golden draped gown by Lanvin with complementary gold sandals by Salvatore Ferragamo. It was as if she already sensed her third win as her top-to-toe gold number definitely matched the golden Oscar trophy. Streep explained that she opted to wear a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo since the designer is Margaret Thatcher’s (the character she’s portraying in Iron Lady) personal favorite.

Jennifer Lopez in Jimmy Choo

When J.Lo stepped out on the red carpet, everyone’s eyes immediately widened and gasps were let out. But it’s probably the exact reaction she expected when she first tried on her very risqué gown. Lopez wore an ivory silk tulle gown with a neckline that plunged approximately on the “gutsy level’, although it didn’t really stir the same controversy as her green sheer silk chiffon dress at the Grammy Awards in 2000. Anyway, her shoes deserved some attention as well.

They’re the Sugar peep-toe platform pumps from Jimmy Choo. Part of the designer’s Cruise 2012 collection, these heels are intricately embellished with crystals and matched her shimmering gown. This was already the second time the Latina star was seen with the Sugar pumps; the first was at Glamour’s 2011 Women of the Year Awards.

Angelina Jolie in Salvatore Ferragamo

Leave it to Angelina Jolie to be the highlight at the Oscars without even bagging an award. The actress was merely a presenter but she made headlines in every Oscar-related news. The reason? Her right leg. No, she didn’t lose nor break it. On the contrary, she put them on the spotlight in such a way that it was almost ridiculous. She has been seen in thigh-high slits plenty of times before but this was the first time she worked the ‘leg pop’ so hard. The “In the Land of Blood and Honey” director may have her reason for it but whatever that may be, you can only be thankful that she was able to show off her lovely black velvet peep toe pumps custom-made for her by Salvatore Ferragamo.
