The Golden Globe Awards 2012: The Stars in Heels

It’s only January and the carpet is already blazing in a combustion of stars both from the film and television industries. Last January 15, the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards was held at the Beverly Hills, California.

The first red carpet event of the year was a resounding success, as this year’s host Ricky Gervais had everyone laughing, smiling and even annoyed. And Madonna added more entertainment with her naughty and witty remarks to counter Gervais’.

But before the winners were announced and the stars sipped their Moët, all attention was at the arrival area where Hollywood’s finest posed in all their radiance. Below is a round-up of celebrities which deserved the Best Designer Shoes award.

Katharine McPhee in Christian Louboutin

The red carpet was mostly littered by celebrities and guests in their best suits and ball gowns. But while others packed on chandelier and drop earrings, heavy make-up and long trails, Katharine McPhee kept it low-key.

Accessorized with only a clutch, ring and clip earrings, McPhee wore a nude-colored gown which perfectly matched her nude pumps from Christian Louboutin. It takes a lot of guts to wear the Alti Platform pumps as the heels measure 6.3 inches! And McPhee had more than enough as she walked in them with much ease and flair.

Emma Stone in Lanvin

The actress is undeniably one of the most happening twenty-something stars in Hollywood. She has certainly made the right decisions since her entry into the limelight. From her career path to her hair color transformation (from blonde to brunette to red), Stone proved to be a wise lass.

Even her red carpet appearances were always a hit! For this year’s Golden Globes, she went for a plum and raspberry Grecian-inspired chiffon gown from Lanvin. She completed the look with Opanca sandals still from the same designer. These multi-strap Lanvin platform sandals are from the Spring 2012 collection and feature crystal-embellished heels. Indeed, glamming up is ‘easy-a’ for Emma Stone!

With that long lilac Gucci gown, you can only catch glimpses of her lovely shoes that night. That’s quite unfortunate as the pair really deserved a share of the spotlight on the red carpet. The elegant shoes Alba wore were satin platform pumps from Guiseppe Zanotti.

The minimalist design of the shoes clearly neutralized the heavy embroidery of her dress. You can only wonder why she chose a pair with 5.5 inch heels when she already stands 5’6”!

Natalie Portman in Jimmy Choo

Last year, the award-winning actress wowed everyone as she walked the red carpet, looking more stunning than ever in a plum chiffon dress, Jimmy Choo sandals and her best accessory: a huge baby bump.

After taking a year off from the limelight, she returned as though she had never been gone. With her petite frame and fuchsia pink Lanvin dress, you can easily mistake her for a teen on her way to prom and most certainly, to be crowned prom queen.

Her gown seemed like a reworked version of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. But the semblance only ended there as she kept everything simple, from her accessories to her shoes. Portman wore one of Jimmy Choo’s elegant pieces, the Macy sandals.

The simple criss-cross toe design and Swarovski-embellished buckle attained her no-fail red carpet look of being effortlessly chic. She was obviously smitten by the sandals as she wore the same Macy sandals during the previous Golden Globe Awards, only they were in plum color.

Viola Davis in Jimmy Choo

Every guest at the Golden Globes is expected to come in his/her most fabulous ensemble, but for the nominees themselves, the pressure is more intense. Nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for her most recent film The Help, Viola Davis arrived at the red carpet looking already like a winner in a flowy maroon gown with an asymmetrical detail. Her thigh-high slit revealed her equally fabulous shoes by Jimmy Choo. Davis wore the Vamp sandals which feature multiple criss-cross straps.

The fashion icon took a break from her usual boho attire and arrived at the Golden Globes in a rather modern number. She wore a silver floor-length gown and finished off with a pair that’s equally metallic: the strappy glitter Vamp sandals by Jimmy Choo.

Piper Perabo in Christian Louboutin

During that major event, women tried their best to work a regal pose in front of the cameras, complete with lips pouted, hands on the waist and legs crossed. But Piper Perabo stood out and flashed ear-to-ear smiles and twirled right on the red carpet.

The actress was indeed a ball of energy in a sea of primness. Apart from her goofiness, she drew everyone’s attention with her very, very sheer gown and gleaming silver heels. Perabo accentuated her bare gown with Poseidon pumps by Christian Louboutin. The shoes are covered in mirrored sequins which, needless to say, seemed almost a disco ball.

Laura Linney in Christian Louboutin

She may have not been able to personally claim her award at the Golden Globes last year but she made a loud return to the red carpet, beaming in a bright blue gown. While the overall design of her floor-length dress was bare with geometric folds and sharp cuts, her Christian Louboutin shoes provided that much-needed spark.

The Big C actress wore Very Prive peep-toe shoes which are covered in fine satin. She may not have bagged the Best Actress in a TV series award but she sure made it to the Best-Dressed list.

Sharon Osbourne in YSL

Now you might be appalled to see her on this list. Yes, this post is dedicated to the winning looks during the Golden Globes and to put it bluntly, she was a clear miss with a floral ball gown that only looked perfect with a curtain rod. But when she pulled up her skirt and revealed sparkly pink YSL pumps, she was able to draw a few nods.

The shoes are customized YSL Palais platforms which underwent full ‘strassing’. Besides, you have to hand it to Mrs. Osbourne for donning footwear that’s well beyond her years and braving 5 ¼ inch heels.
